WEST GIPPSLAND
A SINGLE shot was all that separated home side Traralgon RSL and Trafalgar in the West Gippsland Bowls division one match of the round on Saturday.
Conditions were hostile for the round six encounter due to an uncommon easterly breeze wafting across the green.
The RSL green staff produced a surface conducive to good bowling and both sides demonstrated superb skill over 25 ends of back and forth bowls.
The 20 minute afternoon tea break saw scores level and both sides fought out a cliffhanger.
The final session of play offered up an exciting battle with the scores close and either team poised to pounce as spectators verbalised their excitement right through to the final bowl.
Traralgon RSL picked up four shots on the final end to record an overall victory of 95- 94 shots with two rinks up and two down and a points score of 16-4.
The win moved the RSL side to fourth position on the ladder.
Traralgon RSL club has recruited well and Saturday’s performance evidenced its stature as a force to be reckoned with for the remainder of the season.
Strzelecki Regional Challenge
WEST Gippsland Bowls Division won the first of three games against South Gippsland 71-26 yesterday in the Strzelecki Regional Challenge at Yallourn.
The West went on to win the second tie 59-37 to take an unassailable 2-0 lead and honours for the day.
RESULTS
Bob Currie (Warragul) defeated John Miglorisi (Wonthaggi) in the Strzelecki Region Novice Singles at Yallourn on Sunday 21 – 16.
In the ladies Janice Parks (Inverloch) defeated Shirley Melsen (Warragul) 21 – 11.
