Bairnsdale 8/183 d Traralgon 147

BAIRNSDALE notched up an important Gippsland Cricket League victory by defeating Traralgon at the Meerlieu Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Traralgon batted first and reached 1/27 before a disastrous collapse saw the visitors lose 5/22.

Only some lusty hitting at the finish from Tom Shippen (30) and Ryan Delaney (28 not out) raised the total to 147.

Luke Schumann starred with the ball for Bairnsdale capturing 5/29.

In reply Bairnsdale lost an early wicket but a second wicket partnership of 88 between Luke Schumann and Gabriel Warwick (21) all but sealed the result.

Traralgon fought back to pick up four quick wickets but never had enough runs on the board.

Schumann went on to finish with 101 not out, leading his side to 8/183.

Matt Golding took 4/40 for Traralgon.

Leongatha 5/123 d Central Gippsland 118

CENTRAL Gippsland batted first at Yallourn North and achieved a good start of 50 between Henk Conradie (28) and Riyaz Pathan (13) before losing three wickets for just two runs against some excellent Leongatha bowling.

Wickets continued to fall on a regular basis as Andrew Philip (25) played a lone hand in a total of 118 all out from 37.3 overs.

Skipper Tim Wightman claimed 4/32 off his 10 overs, well supported by Weerasingha Silva (3/28) and Charith Keertishinge (3/12).

Leongatha was in some early strife at 3/34, however a partnership of 76 between Mitchell Clark (46) and Daniel Salmon (34) saved the day. After 44 overs Leongatha was 5/123 and safely home, despite the efforts of Brandon McDonald (2/17) and Dermott Leys (2/18).

Gippsland 9/158

GIPPSLAND was eliminated from the knockout VCCL under 21 tournament at the weekend, going down to Northern Rivers at Ted Summerton Reserve, Moe.

Gippsland skipper Brad Scott won the toss and elected to bat and the home team was reeling early at 3/25.

Hayden Erfurth and Jayden Allison (15) put on 45 for the fourth wicket before Allison was run out.

Northern Rivers dominated the next session, despite a defiant Erfurth who provided stern opposition with a fine 61.

A valuable partnership between Ben Foon (33 not out) and Taylor Tatterson (17) added some respectability to a total of 9/158 from the allotted 50 overs.

Northern Rivers lost an early wicket in reply but a second wicket partnership of 28 steadied the ship.

Kasey Duncan scored a quick 30 and man of the match Adam Ward capped off a great day with 57.

Northern Rivers achieved the target six down with five overs to spare.

Gippsland’s bowling honours went to Brad Scott with 3/30 while Taylor Tatterson, Jayden Allsion and Tom Wyatt each claimed a wicket.
