NORTH GIPPSLAND FL
The North Gippsland Football Netball League match of the round between Heyfield and Rosedale failed to live up to expectations after quarter-time.
The match was all but over in the early stages of the first term with Heyfield running away to a commanding 37-point lead at quarter-time.
Heyfield’s Mitch Dowse inflicted the damage early with his first of four goals for the afternoon.
Joel Dinsdale also found the goals early as the Kangaroos found themselves time and time again first to the ball.
Leigh Brown played his second match of the season for Heyfield and had an impact in the ruck early before moving into the forward pocket.
The second term was a more even affair on the scoreboard, mainly attributed to the blustery conditions which made shots at goal for Heyfield a work of art.
Rosedale’s Brad Scott registered his team’s second major, but it was matched as quickly by Kodie Woodland.
Heyfield’s Jack Woodland was benefiting from the handy work of Lucas Jenkins and Shaun Humphreys in the ruck.
Jack Woodland and Daniel Stevens made the most of their opportunities in the middle of the ground, but they were kept in close check by Rosedale’s Dale Fleming, who toiled hard to create something out of nothing for the third-placed Blues.
Flemings major in the second term lifted his side’s spirits, although it was short lived.
The home side inflicted further damage after the main change, slamming on 12 goals to five to run home comprehensive 83-point victors, 21.15 (141) to 8.10 (58).
Woodside v Glengarry
WOODSIDE’s Justin Staley stood tall in his team’s 20.19 (139) to 10.6 (66) victory against Glengarry.
The win helped the Wildcats keep their top five aspirations alive.
Staley was amazing as he managed to kick as many goals as Glengarry off his own boot – 10 in total.
These goals came from contested marks, many of them against more than one opponent.
Some credit must go to his teammates though as they continuingly sat the ball out in front of him to mark.
The Wildcats were well served by Ryan Foat, Adrian Fazioli and Tom Love.
Woodside’s seventh win of the season levelled its win-loss ledger at 7-7 and more importantly elevated the side back into the top five for the first time since the second round.
Sale City v Churchill
CHURCHILL has confirmed its standing as a North Gippsland powerhouse after beating fourth-placed Sale City, 20.8 (128) to 5.9 (39).
Despite dropping the points in their earlier encounter, it was a fierce and ferocious Cougar outfit that all but buried the top three hopes of the Dogs.
The Cougars led by 45 points at the long change, and the barrage continued in the second half with Brendan Holt booting a match high six.
Holt, Brad Knowles (five) and Nic Celima (four) were the main protagonists in front of goal.
The win extends the Cougars’ winning streak to eight.
Cowwarr v TTU
It was not the celebrations Cowwarr had hoped for Shane Morgan’s 200th club match, with the Saints out played by TTU, who broke through for its first win since round nine.
Little separated the Saints and Bombers early, with the stakes much higher for the fifth-placed home side who needed to firm their strangle hold on a top five billing.
With nothing to lose the Bombers blitzed their higher-ranked opponents three goals to one in the second term to set a 17-point lead at the main change.
The Saints ate away at the margin in the premiership term, but inaccuracy in front of goal restricted the challenge.
TTU’s Guy Sinclair held Morgan at bay and was instrumental in the Bombers’ victory.
The final term was an old fashioned shootout, but the Bombers’ third term lead served them well at the final siren, 11.14 (80) to 8.20 (68).
The Saints have dropped from fifth to seventh position on the ladder, equal on points with Yarram.
In the final match of the round, Yarram came out on top against Gormandale, 13.12 (90) to 12.3 (75).
