THERE was no bearing on the final ladder standings, but the final round of the Latrobe Valley Baseball Association season was played with the same gusto as the rest of the year.
Traralgon Redsox and Moe Newborough Dodgers faced off in a thrilling A grade duel that was on a knife’s edge until the final inning.
The Dodgers staged a fight back in the final few innings to try and reel in an early Redsox lead, but ultimately fell one run shy.
One run in the first saw Moe Newborough take the lead, before the Redsox hit back with two in the third and four in the fourth to take control. The Dodgers left runners on base as Luke Hornstra pitched Traralgon out of some tricky situations to hold the lead.
Scores in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings brought the Dodgers close, but Traralgon’s defence saved the day to secure a 6-5 win.
The South Gippsland Miners and the Sale Rangers battled out a hit-fest with 41 hits and 28 runs between them in a tied eight inning game.
In a topsy turvy match the timer had the final say, closing the match one inning short with scores locked 14-all.
Churchill Braves knocked off Morwell Cougars in the final match of the round 10-0.
