THREE consecutive wins has pushed Latrobe City Energy into sixth on the BigV division one men’s basketball ladder.
The Energy leapfrogged Chelsea after dismissing the Gulls 86-77 at Patterson River Stadium on Saturday night.
One-man-army Corey Standerfer (37 points, 13 rebounds) threatened to carry Chelsea at times in the contest, but Energy limited his help to secure an important win.
The visitor was forced to play from behind after the Gulls posted a 22-14 first quarter.
Responding in kind, Energy rallied in a 31-11 second quarter, shooting at 70 per cent from the field in a blitzkrieg to lead by 12 at the main change.
After an even 19-19 third the Gulls required a monster final quarter to overturn the deficit but only managed to drag the margin back by three points before the siren.
United States import duo Raheem Lemons (28pts, 11rb) and Jordan Coleman (21pts, 7rb) were again the guiding lights for Energy’s offence.
Point guard Simon Vannapraseuth and Ben Barlow also stood tall with plenty of minutes.
The Latrobe City women are fifth on the BigV division one ladder after suffering a loss to Sunbury.
The Energy were outclassed 90-64 at Boardman Stadium.
Shanice Steenholdt kept her perfect run of double-doubles in tact with 28 points and 11 rebounds, while Tanarly Hood, Chelsea D’Angelo and Coco Henry each put up 10 points.
