Churchill Victoria Country will administer senior basketball in Churchill following the failure to appoint a new committee to administer the town’s adult association.
A Churchill Senior Basketball Association special general meeting was held on 15 September in a bid to appoint a new committee to oversee the competition after the previous administration decided to step down.
However, the meeting failed to elect enough committee members to operate and oversee the organisation.
As a result, BVC has appointed a competitions administrator to ensure domestic senior basketball continues at Latrobe Leisure Churchill.
BVC general manager David Huxtable said the appointment of the administrator was not his organisation’s preferred option.
“However, domestic basketball is very important to the local community and they have a first class facility and people wanting to stay,” Huxtable said in a statement.
The administrator will work with volunteers and Latrobe Leisure to operate the league.
This winter season the association has operated three men’s divisions with 16 teams between them and in the 2015-16 summer season also had a seven-team women’s league.
In his statement, Huxtable said BVC will begin discussions with the Churchill Junior Basketball Association with a view to
“Churchill juniors and Churchill seniors are the last remaining associations in Country Victoria to operate a separate affiliation with regards to juniors and seniors,” he said.
“BVC would like to see that one incorporated body assumes the responsibility of basketball administration in the long term.”
