The Gippsland Cricket League season will come to a head this weekend when Traralgon and District Cricket Association plays off against Sale-Maffra for top honours.
With little to separate both teams, the TDCA side likes its chances.
“We’ve got a pretty good side in so we’re pretty confident,” TDCA captain-coach Lee Stockdale said.
“Both teams should be confident. They have a good side in as well, but there’s no reason we can’t play well.”
Going 4-1 for the regular season meant Traralgon finished in second overall, behind Sale-Maffra who were undefeated in regular competition.
Traralgon’s only loss came at the hands of Sunday’s opponents but it has also beat Sale-Maffra in the Country Week match-up, so Stockdale is rejecting the underdog tag.
“I think both teams have different personnel but both teams have players who didn’t play on either occasion that’ll come into both sides,” he said.
With about 25 players taking to the field for the TDCA over the season, management has had to cut the list back to about 13 potential starters on Sunday.
Stockdale said a strong batting line-up and solid bowling could give his team the edge in the final.
“It’s probably the best batting side we’ve had in for the whole of the year and hopefully that compliments our good bowling,” he said.
Team management will inspect the grounds later this week.
“I’ve never played at Scorpion Park in Leongatha, so I’m not too sure if it’s a high-scoring ground or not,” Stockdale said.
Traralgon and District Cricket Association plays off against Sale-Maffra this Sunday, 12 Febuary from 11am at Scorpion Park in Leongatha.
