The Gormandale Cricket Club has announced a “major coup” ahead of the 2018/19, with the appointment of Brendan Peavey to junior coach co-ordinator.
The newly-created role will include overseeing junior coaches at the club and the junior training and match day programs.
Peavey will also coach the under 16 side and pull on the whites and play with his talented son Campbell.
Gormandale Cricket Club president Gavin Foenander said the club had enjoyed a “big off-season and our junior program is our highest priority”.
“We decided as a club that we would be aggressive in our pursuit of the very best coaches in Traralgon to oversee our program, and we think we couldn’t have found a more fitting person than Brendan to head it up,” Foenander said.
“He is extremely passionate about developing young players and has a great reputation amongst the players and their families as a great communicator and someone who makes the experience of playing cricket fun and enjoyable.
“We could not be happier with the appointment and we look forward to Brendan and Campbell being a huge part of our club this season and into the future.”
Peavey previously served as a player and junior coach at Traralgon West, however, was “keen to stay and play cricket in the Traralgon area” after the club made the decision to move to the Latrobe Valley Cricket Association.
“I am really excited to be part of the Gormandale Cricket Club and, in particular, taking on this important role with their junior program,” Peavey said.
“I was keen to stay and be involved in the TDCA and play locally to my home in Traralgon.
“I am passionate about the TDCA, we have great junior players, coaches, facilities and families and I want to help ensure it remains a strong association. I loved my time at Traralgon West and wish them nothing but success this season and into the future.”
The Gormandale Cricket Club junior program has commenced pre-season training and all girls and boys are welcome to come along and train.
