WNBL

ELITE basketball is set to keep rolling into Traralgon, with the Women’s National Basketball League confirming the Melbourne Boomers will be playing the Perth Lynx at the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium on Sunday.

A WNBL double-header featuring the Boomers, Lynx, Canberra Capitals and Sydney Uni Flames was originally scheduled for Saturday, January 8, but had to be postponed due to COVID protocols.

Traralgon basketball product Jade Melbourne was expected to play for Canberra on her home court.

While the Flames and Capitals won’t be making the trip down, locals will still be treated to basketball of a high calibre, as the Boomers and Lynx are both currently inside the top four on the WNBL standings.

The Boomers have formed a visible presence in the region over the past few years, delivering events and community programs in partnership with the Latrobe Valley Authority and state government.

The WNBL will complement the Country Basketball League finals happening throughout the day, making for a full extravaganza at the GRISS.

The Traralgon T-Birds men’s team will be locked in a semi-final battle, as will the T-Birds women’s side who are up against the Moe Meteors.

Those who purchased tickets for the previously cancelled WNBL game will be honoured now that the games have been rescheduled.

More information from Ticketek will be emailed to ticket holders.
