SWIMMING
THE Traralgon Swimming Club recently competed in the Victorian Sprint Championships held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
Thirty-seven swimmers raced in 50 metre events across all strokes against the best in Victoria, with Traralgon coming away with three Gold, three Silver and four Bronze medals.
With 45 top 10 finishes this was an outstanding result for the swimmers given it was the first major meet back since all competitions were closed down during COVID.
Individual medal winners were:
Kayla Wilson (15) – MC. Gold: 50 Fly, 50 Free. Silver: 50 Back, 50 Breast.
Olivia Baillie (14) – Gold: 50 Back.
Ash Nicholes (15) – Silver: 50 Free.
Molly Cargill (16) – Bronze: 50 Fly, Bronze: 50 Back.
Brody Cargill (12) – Bronze: 50 Fly.
In the two relay events held at the meet the Mixed 12 years/under 4 x 50 Free relay team of Kody Said, Phoebe Balcombe, Lara Landels and Brody Cargill won a Bronze medal against the best teams in the state.
Senior head coach Brian Ford was pleased with the result.
“With these championships being the first major meet back in Victoria for many months the club had a great result,” he said.
“Swimmers have a significant workout for the upcoming Country, Gippsland and State Championships over the next two months.”
The club now has its sights set on the Victorian Country Swimming Championships to be held in Mildura where it is vying for its 22nd win in 23 years.
