THE Traralgon and District Cricket Association is set to benefit, thanks to a generous donation from mobile phone provider Optus.
The TDCA will receive $10,000 over three years as part of a $100,000 donation from Optus to help regional sport, particularly girls and youth.
The kind gesture has come about as a way to help local cricket clubs, and honour the legacy of late Australian cricket great Shane Warne.
TDCA junior players were on hand last Wednesday at the Optus Mid Valley Store to say
thanks.
TDCA executive member Nick Scammell wished to thank Optus for their generosity.
“It is amazing. To be able to partner with Optus, who are nationally known as contributors of sport from their streaming services, to sponsorship of stadiums all around Australia, for the TDCA to now have that, it’s amazing, we couldn’t be more thankful,” he said.
With financial surety for the next three years, Scammell said the investment would help the
TDCA plan ahead.
“The focus is going to be on the juniors but we’ve also got a women’s team that we need to add to,” he said.
“There is some admin costs that you need to do, but we are also reinvesting it back to help Optus out as much as possible. We’re going to be running some advertising campaigns, putting up signs at all our grounds and every club is going to be proudly hosting an Optus logo somewhere on their brand or at their facility.
“Shane Warne left a bit of a hole in everyone’s lives. His legacy will live on for a long, long time, but for the TDCA for the present, we get to really enjoy that legacy by getting this from Optus.”
Optus General Manager Victoria Jayson Grool said the company was looking forward to its new relationship with the TDCA
“We’re really excited to partner with the Traralgon and District Cricket Association, as they have a great youth program for boys and girls, and an amazing adults program as well,” he said.
“It is about increasing awareness and uptake of cricket.”
