WNBA

MOE’S dynamic basketballer, Jaz Shelley, has been drafted to the Phoenix Mercury with Pick 29 of the 2024 WNBA Draft.

After spending five years in the college system with the University of Oregon and the University of Nebraska, Shelley’s hard work has paid off with a move to the elite level.

Shelley was ranked 88th in the WNBA Draft, a system that only sees 36 women selected to join the major league, with three 12-pick rounds.

The 175cm shooting guard was analysed as a good passer with big assist numbers, and she holds the ability to shoot from deep.

Shelley joins fellow Gippslander, Traralgon’s Jade Melbourne, in the WNBA system, despite playing on separate ends of the US.

WNBA training camps begin later this month, with pre-season games beginning as early as May 3.

Final roster changes can be made up until May 13, before the 2024 season starts the next day.

More to come.
