The votes are in …

The bright and bubbly team at Traralgon Neighbourhood Learning House were bursting with excitement yesterday after claiming three major honours at the Latrobe City Business Tourism Association People’s Choice Awards on Tuesday night.

For the second year in a row, the house won the Most Popular Community Service/Organisation Award, along with the Good Access is Good Business Award.

This time around, the house also took the top honour of ‘Champion of Champions’, receiving the most overall public votes of all finalists.

“This is just acknowledgement of the wonderful work carried out by our wonderful team of people and how much we embrace our community as well,” coordinator Jenny Poon said.

“It gives us the impetus to keep going and it also can help us when we apply for grants.”

Morwell Centenary Rose Garden was crowned the region’s post popular tourist attraction and the Boolarra Folk Festival, named most popular community event.

The fifth annual awards – voted by the Latrobe Valley community – also acknowledged the customer service excellence of local businesses.

Coffee Corner in Traralgon topped the take-away section; The Morwell Bowling Club was the winner out of clubs and hotels; while Bushies Bakery in Glengarry was recognised among the cafe and bakery section; and The Ritz on Hotham was top restaurant. Customer service awards in accommodation went to the Walhalla Star Hotel and Morwell Motel; along with Traralgon’s Creek Cottage Bed and Breakfast; and Park Lane Holiday Park.

For customer service in retail and small business, Gippsland Free Range Eggs took the honour; while Traralgon Beauty Salon topped the health and beauty category. Hall of Fame inductees were Park Lane Holiday Park and Bushies Bakery.
