Rubbish collection delayed

Valley residents will have to get used to the sights and smells of burgeoning wheelie bins over the next few days, after Latrobe City Council announced a short-term delay to waste collection services.

The delay could last until the weekend for some residents, due to the fleet-wide garaging of council’s waste contractor Cleanaway, after one of its trucks was involved in a fatal accident in South Australia on Tuesday.

Cleanaway have subsequently garaged their trucks until roadworthy certificates are obtained for each vehicle.

In an announcement yesterday afternoon, Latrobe City acting general manager recreation and community liveability Damian Blackford said recycling and garbage collection services would be impacted until the trucks were recommissioned.

“We advise residents to be patient and leave their garbage and/or recycling bins out until collected,” Mr Blackford said.

“If your rubbish was due to be collected Wednesday morning or later this week, make sure it stays out on the kerb.

“Cleanaway has promised to collect the rubbish as soon as they can and that could be on Saturday or Sunday.”
