CHURCHILL Blue Devils began their Country Basketball League Gippsland title defence on the right foot, accounting for Korumburra Wildcats 93-64 on the road at the weekend.
Captain Jordan Canovan ran rampant with 38 points, 15 of which came from three-point range, while Andrew Petrou and Rob Michaelides provided support with 12 each.
Moe Meteors started their campaign in almost identical fashion courtesy of a handsome 92-69 victory over the Sale Sonics.
Luke Shelley starred with 26 points, while Latrobe City Energy sharpshooter Nick Sedley landed a quartet of three-pointers to guide his side home.
There was no such luck for Traralgon, which went down to the Sonics in the season opener on Saturday night at home.
Frazar Brouns stood tall with a haul of 24 points, but the T-Birds succumbed 78-85.
Premiers Churchill had a mixed start in the women’s competition, with a win and a loss in its double header.
