ARCHERY
TORRENTIAL rain led to an additional challenge at Twin City Archers’ state field championships on Saturday when a lake formed in the middle of the marked archery course at Toners Lane, Morwell.
Volatile weather added a degree of difficulty for about 65 archers from across Victoria, with even the most skilled veterans pushed to their limits by wind gusts and intermittent downpours.
Bill Van Oosten (male open longbow), Richard Morgan (male junior barebow recurve) and Merv Grinstead (male veteran plus compound) excelled on their home course to take out their respective divisions.
Twin City newcomer Drew Orton announced himself as a future champion with a runner-up finish in the male cub compound after just 12 months in the sport.
Club spokeswoman Tammy Richards said the 11 year-old’s development had been astounding.
“He didn’t get gold but his competition has been shooting for years… he’s one to watch definitely,” Richards said.
