Member for Morwell Russell Northe says he is “seriously considering” putting his hand up for deputy leader of the Nationals if he is successful in retaining his seat.
The vote count continues for the seat of Morwell, with Mr Northe ahead 51.76 per cent to Labor candidate Jadon Mintern’s 48.24 per cent.
Leadership discussions are due to take place tonight.
Mr Northe told The Express today he would speak to his family and colleagues about the merits of nominating.
“I would like to see a Gippsland representative part of the leadership, whether that’s myself, Tim Bull, or Danny O’Brien; we’ll have those discussions,” Mr Northe said.
It comes following party leader Peter Ryan announcing on Monday he would step down from the role after 15 years.
“Peter Ryan has been the best leader any party could want,” Mr Northe said.
Current deputy Peter Walsh has nominated for leader.
