Rivals Newborough and Mirboo North battled it out for the Ron Skinner Trophy, with the Dogs coming out on top.
It was a tough contest between two fierce competitors with Newborough gaining the honours by 17 points at the finish.
Newborough winger Phillip Hicks was in the thick of the match early as he looked for his teammates by playing wide.
The avenues to goal were never going to be easy as Mirboo North closed ranks and forced the Dogs into early errors.
It was all square at half-time with a 3.5 (17)-all scoreline.
Mirboo North was slightly more effective in front of the sticks and edged ahead by five points at three-quarter-time in a tense battle. Newborough ruckman Mat Slattery was again a strong contender but it was up forward where the Dogs took control in the final term.
Joel Mitchell found form and bagged three goals to steer Newborough on a winning course. Anthony Rosato was again a top pick as the Dogs took revenge.
Once Newborough hit the front there was no stopping it as the Dogs rolled on to record a 17-point victory, 10.10 (70) to Mirboo North 8.5 (53).
Mitchell finished with five goals for Newborough while Jesse Giardina scored three for Mirboo North.
Yinnar zoomed to the top of the ladder with a hard-fought win against Yarragon.
The persistent Panthers were not overawed at playing their ‘home’ game at Yinnar.
Yinnar controlled the game early, but Yarragon switched on in the final three quarters, almost slipping by for the win in the final term.
The Pies suffered from inaccuracy in front of goal and allowed the Panthers to close in.
Yarragon took the game up to the Pies in the final stanza to add 4.4 (28), more than it had kicked in the previous three quarters, however Yinnar held on to win by 21 points.
Yinnar finished with 10.12 (72) to 7.9 (51).
Mitch Renwick was the best forward on the day with three goals.Ruckman Brian Cook played a big game for Yarragon as did pocket Tim Farthing for the third consecutive week.
Other good players for the Panthers were Ben Damschke and Billy Webster.
For Yinnar, Sam McCulloch, Nicholas Linton and Jacob Mowat shared best player honours.
Hill End was no match for the fire power of Yallourn-Yallourn North who again scored another big win.
Led by ex-Morwell player Dean McDonald with nine goals, the Bombers took control from the start. With Tim Phillips and Tom Hutton booting five goals each, the Bombers controlled the forward zone. Hill End gave token resistance but there was never any fighting power behind their few forward forays.
Tyler Brown was explosive for YYN and would have picked up medal votes for his game.
Troy Dobson, Adam Bailey and Josh Keyhoe were all worthy contributors, but it was the YYN defence which proved the stumbling block for Hill End who had 13 shots at goal with limited success.
Simon Fiddelears, Matt Van Tilburg, Mugsy Mooka and Justin Rea all tried hard for Hill End, but it was YYN’s day, winning 23.9 (147) to Hill End 5.8 (38).
Morwell East moved into fifth spot from seventh on the table after a good win against Boolarra.
The Hawks got home by 78 points in what was expected to be a closer contest.
Morwell East opened well and Shaun Barnes impressed early with telling goals.
The East looked like they were enjoying the match as Boolarra struggled to get its teamwork functioning.
The Hawks held a 27-point lead at quarter-time but struggled for accuracy in the second term, only scoring eight consecutive behinds.
Boolarra struggled in its forward line with Morwell East putting on the pressure.
The East came home strong in the last quarter with seven-goals-to-one, showing they have the potential to beat teams in higher positions.
A scoreline of 18.16 (124) to Boolarra 7.4 (46) showed just how easily the East were in control. Shaun Barnes finished with four but could have been higher and Brendan Evans added three more to his tally.
Hayden Lawson-Pepper was Boolarra’s best sharp shooter with three.
In a magnificent day for football Thorpdale and Trafalgar battled it out for respective Anzac Cups for each division of football and netball.
The huge crowd witnessed a great day of sport between two keen rivals.
The senior match was a thriller with Thorpdale getting home by 10 points in its third close match of the season.
Trafalgar took up the challenge with the inclusion of players returning from injury and was competitive.
Two quick goals to the Bloods going into the final quarter caused a huge groan from the Thorpdale faithful.
However, with coach Nick Brown leading from the front the Dales crawled back with five unanswered goals to snap back the lead and hold on until the siren.
Brown received the Anzac Medal for best player as Thorpdale ran out winners 14.11 (95) to Trafalgar’s 13.7 (85).
Brown kicked four for Thorpdale while Jamie Hines bagged three for Trafalgar.
