A splash of land on the corner of Monash Way and Firmins Lane, Hazelwood North is beginning to look more like a wetlands precinct.
Latrobe City Council staff took to the site on Friday morning to plant out the block, which will next year be open to the public.
The environmental wetlands is being built to clean water from the nearby heavy industry park before it enters Waterhole Creek.
Latrobe City general manager of community infrastructure and recreation Steve Piasente confirmed the project was still on target and on budget.
“(This is) despite the recent heavy rains and local flooding,” Mr Piasente said.
“With large-scale projects of this nature we are always aware that extreme weather can impact work on a daily or weekly basis, but we work this into our forward planning.”
He said the majority of the project was complete.
The broader community is encouraged to get involved with plantings – either as individuals, schools or community groups.
