Traralgon on course

The Traralgon Swimming Club set a record when it registered its ninth consecutive win at the Victorian Country Short Course Championships in Ballarat recently.

Traralgon’s 64 swimmer team registered a comfortable win over nearest rival Warrnambool, 2046 points to 928.

Geelong finished third with 756 points.

Traralgon’s tally at the two-day event, which was held on 20 and 21 August, was 35 gold, 19 silver and 12 bronze.

Senior head coach Brian Ford said he was delighted by the win.

“After winning by 900 points last year the expectation was high amongst a number of our competing clubs that we would come back to the field because a number of our senior swimmers were not involved this year,” Ford said.

“To return home with an even bigger win (1122 points) is testament to the determination of this team not to let poolside talk or expectation control their performance.”

The Traralgon mentor could hardly be more glowing in his praise for the team.

“This was our best win by our best team of swimmers, coaches and support staff – 92 per cent of all swims resulted in a personal best time; the junior swimmers added energy and enthusiasm and the team were relentless to succeed through the whole meet – simply an outstanding victory,” Ford said.

The club is now gearing up for the Victorian State Championships to be held over the next two weeks for the 13 to 18 year olds followed by 12 years and under swimmers two weeks later.
