Students have day in court

Grade 6 students at Mirboo North Primary School had the chance to “get into character” during Law Week at the Latrobe Valley Law Courts.

Students had the chance to act as a magistrate, police prosecutor, defence lawyer, victim and defendant in a real court room setting at Morwell on Friday.

“The students played out the drama, by reading from a script of the case. They wore appropriate costuming and sat where their character would actually be seated, in the court room,” Gippsland Community Legal Service’s Bruce Mapperson said.

“Our three-session program provided students with an interactive opportunity to learn about the law, whilst gaining a real insight into the impacts of sexting on the victims and perpetrator.”

The program, which aligns with the Department of Education and Training’s

Respectful Relationships curriculum, promoted respectful behaviours and attitudes.
