Advocate on the buses again

Bus commuters will once again see Latrobe Health Advocate Jane Anderson on public transport to hear their concerns and desires around health and wellbeing within the Latrobe Valley.

“I am looking forward to catching up with people again but also meeting people for the first time as I travel on the buses throughout Latrobe. Please take a minute to say hello and tell your story,” Ms Anderson said.

In December, Ms Anderson held similar conversations with people using public buses to gauge what people saw as issues affecting health and wellbeing in the area and how these could be improved.

Some of the issues raised included access to GPs, community safety on buses and trains, mental health and palliative care.

Ms Anderson said over the last six months she had met GPs and associated peak bodies to discuss ways to improve access to doctors within the area.

She also raised issues about passenger safety on buses in meetings with Public Transport Victoria and representatives from Traveler’s Aid to bring to their attention issues and to explore possible solutions.

Ms Anderson said just like the first round of her bus chats she will take all the information that she received from the community to relay them before governments and stakeholders.

“By amplifying the community’s voice I can encourage services, business and governments to take account of community suggestions and concerns as they deliver services that impact on their health and wellbeing,” she said.

Commuters will start to see Ms Anderson on her bus journeys from today, Monday, July 15 when she travels from Morwell to Traralgon and then to Boolarra via Churchill and Yinnar. People should look out for the Hello bus on this day.

On Tuesday she is scheduled to go to Moe via Morwell on route 14 and 15.
