Traralgon swimming talents Ruby Storm and Emily Beecroft performed tremendously at the recent Australian Short Course Championships held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
Storm won six medals including two gold [50 and 100m breaststroke], three silver [50 and 100m butterfly, 200 individual medley] and one bronze [100m backstroke] while Beecroft claimed a bronze medal in the 100m butterfly.
At the level of competition, and with both girls holding aspirations of making the Australian Olympic team in 2020, Traralgon Swimming Club’s head performance coach Dean Gooch was pleased with the results.
“Both Ruby and Emily are on target heading towards Olympic Trials in June 2020,” he said.
“With Ruby she has done a power of training and racing over the past 12 months and this is the way she performs best so we are planning more of the same over the next 6-7 months. Emily has been there before [2016 Rio Paralympics] so with experience in preparation we will be planning her training and races finely to ensure her best performance comes when it really matters.
“Overall for both girls Australian Champs was a solid meet in their preparation.”
Both Storm and Beecroft are now targeting the Victorian Long Course State Championships and Country Championships with their Traralgon teammates. The club has signalled its intent of another top 10 finish in the State Championships and a record breaking 20th win at the Country Championships to be held in Warrnambool over the Australia Day weekend in January.
