A “TERRIFIC exchange of information” was held between local industry and education training providers in Gippsland last week.
Speaking to The Express after the Gippsland Tertiary Education Council industry forum on Thursday, GTEC chair Dr Peter Veenker said the discussions helped identify education priorities and strategies going forward.
The forum, opened by Higher Education and Skills Minister Peter Hall, was the first forum to be held in Gippsland, and would become “a regular feature” into the future, he said.
“Since the changes to the State Government budget in May last year, I committed to each month hold an industry forum to directly meet with industry (players) and businesses to get feedback on training needs, and how these needs can be met,” Mr Hall said.
The Gippsland forum was the seventh forum of its kind across the state, and the third in regional Victoria.
“Some of the issues raised today was the legal ability of students to gain work experience because of occupational health and safety guidelines, which inhibit their ability…we will look at this,” Mr Hall said.
He said the role of governments in assisting new and emerging training in areas such as robotics, advanced robotics and manufacturing were also discussed.
