Expecting something this year to kick off

PREGNANT women under the age of 25 years are invited to attend the first ‘Expecting Something?’ session of the year on 21 February.

In the free weekly arts-focused workshop program created and run by Polyglot Theatre for young mothers and mothers-to-be in the Latrobe Valley, participants will get to create things to keep for their babies, have conversations and celebrate impending motherhood.

Activities planned for the 2013 workshops include belly-casting for those who are ‘showing’, patchwork toys, miniature story books, baby feet-and-hand moulds and more.

At the end of the year, the program will culminate in a beautiful outside artwork for mothers and babies and a sharing and documentation of the young mothers’ creative journey at the Latrobe Regional Gallery .

There will also be a free interactive showing of ‘How High the Sky’, one of Polyglot’s newest theatre shows, created especially for babies.

The initial program was considered a resounding success with 20 women participating.

The workshops are held in Morwell on Thursdays from 10am to 12.30pm at St Lukes Church Hall, while the Traralgon workshops are held at the Traralgon East Community Centre on Thursdays from 2pm to 4.30pm.

Drop-ins are welcome and transport is provided for women who live in the Valley, including Moe, Morwell, Churchill and Traralgon.
