Under-15s
ANOTHER week and another challenge for the Under-15s team this week.
A 1-4 loss to Dandenong City was the result but for a couple of sliding doors moments, there could have been a different result.
Key injuries either side of half-time would have the effect of throwing the side off balance as the game played out.
GFC had gone into half time with their tails up after a 31 st minute penalty taken well by Henry Wynne however Dandenong City gradually gained control through the midfield in the second half.
Pressure through repeated corner kicks eventually took its toll and Dandenong were able to
capitalise on the scoreboard.
Gippsland goalkeeper Tanna Leicester battled
on all day.
Dylan Rosato, Henry Wynne, Aiden Rodriguez and Trent Frost all worked hard in the midfield.
Under-16s
ALTHOUGH they suffered another loss, going down 5-0, the Under-16s showed improvement on the previous week.
Gippsland had an early chance to score, a quick cross to Harry Humphrey at the back post, being headed over the bar.
Troy Frost and Ben McCartney defended strongly across the backline.
Goalkeeper Jeff Pearson again made many good saves.
Nic Nardone used his body well in the midfield, protecting the ball and keeping possession on
numerous occasions.
When Trent Frost came on in the second-half the team were able to drive forward on a regular basis.
The coaches praised the boys for a greater work effort throughout the game.
Under-18s
PERFECT conditions greeted the players as GFC Under-18s took on Dandenong City.
With both defences on top it looked like something special would be needed to open the scoring.
In a fiery and sometimes spiteful clash, Dandenong City would have the better of the
chances however some great defending by Julian Colantuono, Jayden Taylor and the inform Harry Bettridge would help keep the game nil all at the break.
Gippsland FC started to get on top with Billy Whitmore taking control of the midfield as the
match resumed for the second half and with Campbell Dastey a constant threat on the left it
felt like a matter of time before Gippsland scored.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be this week with the game ending in a stalemate.
The challenges keep on coming with Gippsland FC taking on Melbourne City this Sunday in Morwell.
