ATHLETES across Gippsland are benefitting from specialised high-performance strength and conditioning services thanks to the work of a local provider.
Control High Performance is ensuring young and aspiring athletes are given the resources and tools they need to build their bodies in readiness for professional levels, all the while reducing the travel burden often seen in days gone by.
Previously, Gippsland-based athletes and their parents would need to drive long distances to receive the same training and development offered at Control.
These opportunities are now available in Traralgon, with Control High Performance welcoming athletes from a range of sports wanting to take the next step.
The centre is also making sure local athletes are not being left behind in comparison to their metro-counterparts, demonstrated by the recent running of an AFL Draft Combine style testing day for just over 50 of Gippsland’s best young footballers.
Control Strength and Conditioning coach Stuart Goddard said the centre was committed to assisting athletes of all demographics.
“The goal of the entire business is to bring high level sport science services out of the city and down to Latrobe Valley,” he said.
“All levels, all athletes, all ages, we work mainly with adolescents but we also have a number of mature age athletes.
“Anyone who is looking to improve some sporting performance or working through any injuries with rehab we are here to help.”
As well as strength and conditioning, Control offers fitness testing, biomechanics testing and team sessions, all of which benefits how people live their day-to-day lives.
The centre has a plethora of equipment working in a commercial gym environment, and an advisory board featuring local swimming legend Brian Ford and John Quinn, who has served roles as High-Performance Director at AFL clubs Essendon and Greater Western Sydney.
In a world where people are becoming increasingly busier, Goddard said there was still a number of vital areas that could not be undervalued when it came to health and fitness.
“Sleep and nutrition, nothing can beat it, you can do all the ice baths in the world, use all the fancy recovery techniques but nothing beats sleep and nutrition,” he said. “Drink more water, get more protein and get more sleep.”
Control High Performance is located at 46 Cross Street, Traralgon.
