ONLY two games were played in the Gippsland League at the weekend, with both favourites managing to win quite comfortably.
Sale couldn’t stop the mighty Tigers as Morwell stormed away with the win.
The Magpies got off to a hot start, shooting 17 to Morwell’s 10 in the first quarter, but scoring dried up for the visiting Magpies after the first term. The Tigers found their winning gear and went on to outscore the Magpies by 13.
Best on for Morwell was Claire Marks, Courtney Garth and Anna Solomon, while among the best for the Magpies was Emma Allman, Teagan Harrison and Tori Dessent with the final scoreboard reading 52 to 39.
In the other match of the round, Warragul took care of Wonthaggi. The Gulls had the power to win, building upon a big margin in every quarter at Western Park.
Wonthaggi’s best were Mia Plenkovich, Olivia Gilmour and Chelsea Bowman, but they had no answers to stop the force of Warragul’s Alexandra Cole, Sienna Green and Renee Cook.
The final score was 51 to 31 in favour of Warragul.
IN North Gippsland Football Netball-League, the top order of the ladder shifted as previous league leaders Woodside had the bye.
Sale City defeated Yarram 55 to 34, meaning the Bulldogs went to first on the ladder with 50 points. Heyfield on 48 points rose to second, while Churchill took third spot, with Woodside sitting two points ahead of Rosedale in fourth.
Second-placed Heyfield had no worries playing the wounded Gormandale. The Kangaroos might’ve called it training when they headed out to the Gordon Street court, dominating in all aspects of the match, winning 62 to 28. Heyfield would’ve celebrated their ladder position change more than the end of this game.
One-sided matches were the theme for North Gippsland, as Rosedale also smashed their opponent.
Funnily enough following the AFL fixture with the Carlton Blues playing the Saints, the Blues of North Gippsland were also just too strong for the Saints, with the final scoreboard reading 64 to 41.
Churchill sent the Jets packing after a 35-goal win.
The Cougars started slow but built upon their experience and skill to blow the margin out. The final scores were Churchill 60 to YYN 25.
In the last game for the round, Glengarry continued to showcase their fighting spirit, despite their final chances being ruined. The quality side defeated a tenacious TTU 72 to 43.
MID Gippsland’s Round 16 went exactly to script.
Flag favourites Yinnar wiped the floor with their Stony Creek opposition, with the final scores reading 79 to 30.
Mirboo North got back on the winners list after a very difficult year for the once mighty Tiger force.
Victory would have tasted sweet when the Tiger side managed to beat MDU by two goals on their home deck, 56 to 54.
Boolarra continued to prove their brilliance, defeating Newborough quite comfortably. The Demons, despite inner turmoil, have come up victorious more often than not, and the Bulldogs had no answer for their devilish play, with final scores 61 to 47.
Toora reminded the league that they are the team to beat, with the reigning premier making a meal out of Morwell East, 62 to 45.
Fish Creek defeated Foster easily, 49 to 20.
Hill End and Tarwin both had the bye.
