Tyers Soccer Club has suffered another indignity in its indifferent Gippsland Soccer League central division season after it was stripped of its round 12 win over Monash for fielding an unregistered player.
Tyers went from elation to devastation after its 3-2 victory over the high-flying Monash was reversed as a penalty for the transgression.
GSL chair David Wilson said the league was still investigating the issue to determine the extent of the infringement and that Tyers had requested a meeting with the league to discuss the ordeal.
Wilson said it was a “disappointing” chapter in an already lean season for Tyers, and the example served as a timely reminder for clubs to play by the rules heading in to the final throes of the home and away season.
The circumstance has rarely been seen in recent years, according to Wilson, due to the diligence of clubs.
“People are right on to it… its disappointing (for this to happen),” Wilson said.
No fine has been issued to the club at this stage.
