EnergyAustralia expands operations

Yallourn Power Station owner-operator EnergyAustralia has purchased two black coal-fired power stations in New South Wales, as the state moves to privatise its power sector.

As part of the $160 million sale and purchase agreement with the NSW Government and state-owned generator Delta Electricity, the 1400-megawatt Mt Piper power station and a 1000-megawatt station at Wallerawang will become part of the company’s extensive national power generation portfolio.

EnergyAustralia managing director Richard McIndoe said the purchase, which will include a further $315 million representing the balance of prepaid capacity charge, will reinforce the company’s position as one of Australia’s largest integrated energy businesses.
