DURING a walk through the Traralgon Railway Reservoir Conservation Reserve (TRRCR), the scenic views are something to behold with the plant and wildlife.
The TRRCR Community Asset Committee recently received a new water and weed cart, supporting the management and beautification of the reserve.
Following the replanting along the dam wall of the reservoir, TRRCRCAC secretary John Langstaff said the cart will help ease the workload of volunteers.
“We’re going to use it for the spraying of weeds and we’re also going to use it to water
our juvenile plants,” he told the Express.
“It will be a very handy thing for us to help keep our immature and growing plants.
“We’ve been looking for something like this for quite some time, so it will save us using 20 litre containers to water the plants.
“After you’ve done 10 of them, 20 litre containers full of water and put them on the plants, you get a bit worn out.”
The TRRCRCAC were recipients of a grant from the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority, with the Latrobe Catchment Landcare Network serving as an auspice.
LCLN Network Facilitator and Projects Officer, Caroline Hammond added that the team was happy to support community
groups that are environmentally-focussed.
“It’s a real privilege to work with Johan and all of the crew here and the volunteers who do such an amazing job at looking after the reserve for everybody to enjoy that,” she said.
“For us to be able to support them with funding opportunities and support is really great.”
The Latrobe Catchment Landcare Network has supported the reserve in other capacities, such as helping the committee secure funding for an extension to their greenhouse, as well as arranging local primary school students to attend to plant trees as a part of National Tree Day.
The TRRCRCAC was also the recipient of another grant, which helped erect an educational and instructional TV in the committee’s meeting room.
