LATROBE Valley Tennis Association capped off another successful season recently.

The 2025/26 junior tennis season saw an increase in players, with almost 260 players from 10 clubs across the Latrobe Valley.

The junior league had nine sections, with players aged six to 18 competing.

“The matches this year were closer than ever,” Latrobe Valley Tennis Association President Sally Kirstine said.

“Approximately 20 per cent of the matches each week were decided by game difference.”

The Hotshots sections, with modified rules and low compression balls, enables tennis to be accessible to younger children.

All players were to be congratulated for their efforts and sportsmanship throughout the season, along with all club volunteers and coordinators who assisted.

The senior tennis season saw 40 players from five clubs compete across the Latrobe Valley.

The league implemented a new format this season, with the number one player in each team playing a set of singles and the remaining players playing only doubles. This catered for all ages of participants.

“It was great to see a number of junior players transitioning into senior tennis,” Kirstine said.

Grand finals were held Saturday, March 21.

“We had a wet start to the day, but still had some exceptionally close matches, with a couple of sections being decided by game difference – just what a grand final should be,” Kirstine said.

“Thank you to all players, parents, club coordinators and committee members for a great season.”

Throughout April to September, there are a number of tennis opportunities for juniors and adults.
