Centre opens soon
Sport Minister, Mr Dixon, will officially open the first stage of the Moe Indoor Recreation Centre, now almost completed at a cost of $380,000. The date has been set as June 16. John Field Drive, Newborough, will be the site of the centre’s first stage, including a 25 metre indoor swimming pool, gendered sauna rooms, showers, phys ed facilities, passive rec rooms for reading and viewing, as well as a kiosk. The first stage commenced 10 months ago and was financed through $202,000 in Federal and State Government grants, with the Moe City Council meeting the balance. Meanwhile, Moe City Council has taken over the responsibility of the Newborough Public Hall, previously controlled by volunteer trustees. The trustees feel that the hall could be better protected by the council, which has more time and resources than they.
