STRZELECKI North weekend pennant was once again played under cloudy skies with some matches interrupted by lightning in the area and sharp rain showers.

The damp conditions led to a number of upsets on grass greens during Round 3.Strzelecki State Mixed Pairs were held at Traralgon and Morwell last Sunday, with three rounds of competition.

The following pairs are to play in the semi-finals at Morwell this Sunday (November 8): Nat and Craig Cousin (Longwarry) versus Jill White and Alex Muirhead (Morwell), Lynne Thomas (Drouin) and David Cook (Trafalgar) versus Joelene Laukens (Boolarra) and Nathan Cook (Trafalgar).

Division 1

TRARALGON RSL, fresh from an all rinks drubbing from Longwarry the previous week, came out on top by four shots, 74 to 70 against the well-fancied Trafalgar.

Dave Hodson and his rink of Tim Allen, Rick Lukey and George Cargill defeated Nathan Cook 23-19.

Brian Smith and his rink of Titch Hore, Greg McRonald and Beau Williamson defeated Ian Miles 19-17.

For Trafalgar, Colin Veenendaal and his rink of Mick Fleming, David Mann and Matt Coutts defeated Ross Sizeland 15-14, and Matt Schreyer and his rink of Matthew Walker, Gareth Rich and Wayne Lynch defeated Jim Northe 19-18.

A red-hot Longwarry, after their big win against RSL, came unstuck at Newborough on the grass.

Scott Jones and his rink of Bernie Detering, Liam Jones and Alan Ryan defeated Trevor Kitchin 26-11.

Sheryl Atkinson and her rink of Michael Holroyd, Julie Jackson and Phil Mustoe defeated Glenn Pask 24-11.

Ken Towt and his rink of Nat Cousin, Col Finger and John McCarthy defeated Neale Houston 21-18. Dave Ashby and his rink of Jodie Ashby, Peter Lieshout and Richard Ross defeated Paul Sherman 25-9, leaving Newborough the winners 77-68.

Traralgon won all rinks at home, defeating Drouin 100-58.

Matt Ferrari and his rink of Trevor James, Garry Trewin and Wayne Barnes had a 29-13 win over Chris Deal.

Michael Yacoub and his rink of Pat Trewin, Julian Wildenberg and Matt Higgins defeated Lynne Thomas 24-17. Matt Eccles and his rink of Michael Better, Bill Francis and Ian Hilsley defeated Col Jeffrey 17-16. James Scullin and his rink of Matt Ogilvie, Jason Irvine and Shane Chapman defeated Dennis Throup 30-12.

Moe played at Morwell on Friday night with their permit player Lisa Phillips, and her rink of Billy Nisbet together with Tim and Peter Phillips, defeated Wayne Arnold 30-12.

Morwell fought back through Steve Collins and his rink of Jo-Anne Michaels, John Woischuk and Kevin Pigdon, defeating Sandy Caines 24-9.

Kevin Lovett and his rink of Tony Knipping, Stephen Postlethwaite and Danny McKeown defeated Michael Smogavec 18-15.

Brian Kingsley and his rink of Max Aumann, David Broadbent and Ross Kennedy defeated Jayde Leech 31-14. Morwell won 85-68.

Division 2

 

MORWELL Club at home on grass had a massive 147-37 win over Garfield, with Brett Harle and his rink of Matthew Rogers, Vaughan Reimers and Abbas Mehran winning 59-3.

Neil Whitelaw and his rink of Ben Wilson, Sue Karleusa and Lee McKenzie won 35-9.

Tara Harle won 26-10, and to complete the sweep, Glenn Trembath won 27-15.

Boolarra defeated Newborough (2) 92-64, with David Stevens and his rink of Michael Williams, Jack Cleaver and Terry Parker defeating Peter Policha 28-12.

Nathan Murray defeated Ed Whelan 24-16. Joel Anderson defeated Albert Van Stekelenburg 22-18. Steve Davy drew 18-all with Gerry Van Duin.

Warragul defeated Traralgon (2) 86-72, with only the rink of Gaye Renn with Belinda Slate, together with Bianca and Daniel Sheehan, defeating Shane Prestley 36-6. Jim Power drew 15-all with David Karsky.

For Traralgon (2), Cary Locke defeated Gary Ingley 23-19 and Ian Bloomfield and his rink of Di Richards, Darrell Curnik and Ken Mooney defeated Robert Renn 28-16.

Traralgon (3) defeated Neerim District 99-57 with Scott McDonald and his rink of Nadia Curnik, Colin Eagle and Roger Davey winning 30-13.

Kathy Smiles and her rink of Robyn Dodd, Ron Baker and Rosie Lorenz won 28-8. Brendon Smiles and his rink of Gary Bassett, Robyn Rogers and Barry Roscheller won 29-16. For Neerim District, Peter Wilson won 20-12.

Division 3

 

THORPDALE defeated Moe (2) 85-72 with Ben Powell and his rink of Karl Hechinger, Brett Bailey and Phil Smith winning 21-14.

Drouin (2) defeated Morwell (2) with Brian Thorpe and his rink of Denise Hamilton, Dini Hone and Lyn Jeffrey winning 34-17.

In a tight tussle, Longwarry (2) defeated Traralgon RSL (2) 86-83 with all matches very close.

Warragul (2) defeated Trafalgar (2) 76-70 with three rinks up, including David Gatewood winning 23-7 despite Paul Dawson and his rink of Terry Robertson, Joanna Reekie and Kyan Jenkins winning 31-15.

MIDWEEK pennant bowls was played on Tuesday, October 27 in cool conditions.

Traralgon RSL at home defeated neighbours Traralgon 65 to 55 in Round 3 action.

RSL had only one rink up. Beau Willliamson and his rink of Margaret Gibbins, Rick Lukey and Jim Northe defeated Kathy Smiles 29-8.

For Traralgon, James Scullin and his rink of Di Richards, Garry Trewin and Wayne Barnes defeated Maurie Sutcliffe 20-19.

Trevor James and his rink of Pat Trewin, Rosie Lorenz and Shane Priestley defeated Graham Hore 27-17.

Drouin had a narrow 56-53 win over Warragul, with Chris Deal together with Ron Westrup, Ian Wake and Vince Mancarella defeating David Gatewood 21-17.

Dennis Throup and his rink of John Bickerdike, David McIlfpatrick and Lynne Thomas defeated Peter Gallasch 23-21.

For Warragul, Robert Renn and his team of John and Lynda Morrison, together with Gaye Renn, defeated Col Jeffrey 18-15.

Morwell Club defeated Newborough 72-66, with Brett Harle and his rink of Vaughan Reimers, Lee McKenzie and James Turner defeating Trevor Kennedy 33-16.

Neil Whitelaw and his rink of Gail Rejmer, Sue Karleusa and Roger Rejmer defeated Phil Mustoe 26 -21.

For Newborough, Sheryl Atkinson and her rink of Len Middling, Robert Cook and Bluey Flanigan defeated Tara Harle 29-13.

Trafalgar defeated Morwell 59-51, with only the rink of Matt Schreyer, together with Peter Rosenboom, Sue Robinson and Adam Proctor, defeating Chris Hunt 26-11.

For Morwell, Danny McKeown and his rink of Mike Arnold, Stephen Postlethwaite and Jo-Anne Michaels defeated David Cook 20-15.

Steve Collins and his rink of Tony Knipping, John Osborne and David Broadbent defeated Matt Coutts 20-18.

DIVISION 2 saw Longwarry win 105-32 against Newborough (3) with Trevor Kitchin and his rink of Jan Aubrey, Dale Weller and Nat Cousin winning 41-10.

Jodie Ashby and her rink of Peter Beechey, Craig Cousin and Ken Towt won 26-13, and Margaret Ratcliffe and her rink of Graeme Aubrey, Richard Ross and Ken White won 38-9.

Yinnar won all three rinks but only won by six shots against Drouin (2) 62-56.

Russ Peters defeated Andre De Waele 26-25, Peter Wills defeated Andrew Blaby 21-18 and Bruce Davey defeated Terry McFadzean 15-13 in a tight tussle.

Neerim District narrowly won at Traralgon (2) 58-56, with Pat Fraser-Aurisch defeating Brendon Smiles 20-19 and Karren Sheers defeating Lyn Moffat 20-15.

For Traralgon (2), May Cross defeated John Rochford 22-18.

Newborough (2) defeated Moe 68-44 with all rinks up. Peter Policha and his rink of Brian Carpenter, Carmel Goss and Phil Marston defeated Ian Caines 29-13.

Ed Whelan defeated John Westerlo 22-15 and Albert Van Stekelenburg defeated John ‘Banger’ Harvey 17-16.
