Ace trainer Mick Price and marquee Moe racing identity Peter Gelagotis headline nominations for Glenview Park Traralgon’s first major Spring Racing Carnival on Saturday.
Fields for Latrobe Valley Racing Club’s Ladies’ Day will be finalised today, but the promise of Mr Price’s horses is a perennially tantalising prospect.
Local trainer Allan Douch, who entered Gift From Heaven in the three year-old 1100 metre maiden plate, said Mr Price’s profile was always welcome in Traralgon.
“Usually Mick sticks with our club and always has a couple of runners; it’s good for our club if he does,” Mr Douch said.
Cottonwood Grove (two starts), All rise (one start) and the untested Kinmuku were nominated from the stable, while on the local front Mr Gelagotis put forward Sweet Home Chicago for the $15,000 race five handicap.
Sweet Home Chicago has one win, the Betfair Maiden Plate in Bairnsdale, from five starts.
A healthy dose of rain last week assisted track manager Mick Templeton to prepare an exceptional surface – heading for a dead four on Saturday – for a meeting LVRC chair Brian Quigley hoped would set the stage for a stellar season of racing.
“We’re in the biggest week of racing in Australia and to come on track to see eight very good quality races of our own and be able to watch, and have the bookies on board, on the big screen for the major races in Melbourne (is great),” he said.
“We expect good numbers in each of the races… horses can come from in front or behind on our track – they (the patrons) will see good quality country racing.”
Glenview Park’s gates will open at 11am with the first race scheduled for 1.10pm.
