Jobs increase in short term

Short term job data has shown an extra 2200 Gippslanders found work in October, in line with an overall rise in Victorian employment figures.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics labour force data, the number of people employed in Gippsland increased from 124,800 in September to 127,000 in October.

However comparisons to earlier labour force reports show Gippsland saw a 8800 drop in employment on October 2012 levels, and a 13,400 drop on October 2011 figures.

A spokesperson for the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Resources said month-to-month data contained “inherent volatility” compared to longer term snapshots, such as quarterly figures, which were more reliable.
