A THRILLING day of Twenty20 cricket rounded out the Traralgon and District Cricket Association 2013 calendar year and Glengarry was the big winner, moving into second spot on the ladder after round eight.

Churchill v Glengarry

THE match of the round lived up to expectations as the Cobras and Magpies fought out the closest contest of the day.

Glengarry won the toss and batted first to score a healthy 7/156.

Tim Spotswood (66) and Frank Marks (33) got the Magpies off to a flyer, putting on 64, followed by the addition of 19 from Ben Marks.

Churchill started the run chase well, compiling 51 runs before Chris Williams was out for 19.

John Keighran made 25 to set the side up at 4/120 needing 37 to win off five overs with the in form Ben Kearns still at the crease.

When Kearns was dismissed for 65 Churchill capitulated and lost its last five wickets for 20 runs to lose by 16.

Steve Wright and Frank Marks each took three wickets to continually disrupt the batting effort.

Centrals v CATS

CENTRALS sent CATS into bat and found itself staring down a total of 8/135.

CATS captain Barney Webber (35) and Davin Charleston (36) were the main scorers in a competitive total.

Corey Pollard was best for Centrals with 3/33.

After losing 2/44 Centrals recovered through Jarrod Allan, who top scored with a punishing 75, and Mark Rawson (37*).

The pair dominated proceedings as Centrals cruised home in the 16th over with seven wickets in hand.

Rovers v Raiders

ROVERS batted first and Todd Mann (39) and Simon Duff (37) combined for an opening stand of 49.

Matt Whitechurch (24) contributed down the order as Rovers made a competitive 9/137.

Ross Whelpdale and Michael Higgins both took three wickets while Brad Knowles gave nothing away in a spell of 2/3.

Raiders lost just four wickets in the chase and won comfortably.

Jason Macfarlane remained 43 not out, following the exploits of Knowles (45) and Matt Dyke (22).

Todd Mann took three wickets for Rovers.

Toongabbie v Ex Students

THE Rams batted first and were outclassed and outplayed on all fronts.

In a pitiful batting display Toongabbie was bundled out for 62 in the 19th over.

James Pryde was the surprise weapon with four wickets while Michael Warne spun his way to 3/9.

The Sharks cruised to victory in 14 overs just two wickets down.

Lee Stockdale was unbeaten on 37* and was joined for most of the chase by Greg Munro (22).

Gormandale v Traralgon West

THE top versus bottom game held few surprises.

Traralgon West won the toss and elected to bat, resulting in an early afternoon for all involved.

The West was dismissed for 81 on the back of 19 from Mitch Marino.

Leigh Churchill picked up 3/18 and Shaun Barbour 2/10 to be best for the Tigers.

Gormandale took to the crease with intent and Adrian Burgiel laced the bowling to all parts of the ground in a whirlwind 46.

Skipper Travis Switzer continued the onslaught with 36 not out off 15 balls to help the Tigers reach 1/89 after nine overs.

Kent Hammond watched from the other end to be five not out at the end of play.
