Newborough Primary School students were encouraged to pursue their dream careers when they received scholarships based on their interests earlier this month.
Grade five students Scarlett Price, Kristin Skee, Kye Sherman and Olivia King received the David Andrew scholarships at an end-of-year assembly.
David Andrew was a former student of the school and his family member Pat Brookfield has provided the funds for the awards for more than a decade.
The school bought several items with this money to help the students to achieve their career goals.
Future reporter Scarlett received a journal, books on writing, a book store gift voucher and will tour a newsroom next year.
The 11 year-old said she wanted to be a journalist because “I love to read and I write stories all time”.
“A journalist interviews people about recent things that have happened,” Scarlett said.
She said she liked writing fiction stories, as well as talking and meeting new people.
Kristin and Kye, who want to become architects, received design software, while Olivia’s interest in floristry will be explored with her new tools of the trade.
