Festival to showcase edgy art

The third annual ‘Views from the Edge’ Arts Festival in Mental Health Week will this year be held from 5 to 7 October at St Lukes Uniting Church, Morwell.

The festival will feature an art show including a broad range of art pieces of various media, by artists of an equally broad range of abilities. These works respond to the aim of the festival which is to raise the awareness of mental health issues in our community. Entries for the art show close on Monday, 10 September.

A range of prizes will be given for the art pieces judged the best in various categories and one for the people’s choice.

The festival also showcases a range of live music acts, drama and storytelling and invites people to contribute to a lasting art installation for the site. The festival is the initiative of a number of groups for who mental health is a major concern, and who regularly work with people who have been affected by illness in this area.

These include St Lukes Uniting Church, Insight (a program of Mind Australia), Arts Billabong, Berry Street and Quantum, who all use the site of the festival to run programmes.
