Councillors’ pay rise frozen

LATROBE City councillors have effectively frozen their pay, voting to keep their allowances at the 2012 level for the next political term.

Mayor Sandy Kam said councillors believed “taking the community forward” was a “higher priority”.

“We can handle being at the previous rate,” she said.

“We believe there are far more important things we need to focus on and spend money on.”

The mayor’s allowance is set at $67,634 per annum and councillors will be paid $21,859.

Council flagged its decision publicly in December, but received no submissions from the community.
