In sweltering 38 degree heat volunteers from Traralgon’s St Michael’s Conference donned their Santa hats and delivered Christmas gifts to families in need.
On Friday volunteers brought smiles and joy to 157 of the region’s most disadvantaged families as part of the annual St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal.
St Michael’s Conference Traralgon president Brian said the donations of bikes, toys and food would brighten the Christmas of families from Traralgon to Toongabbie.
“We are here to support the community,” he said.
“Some families do struggle and we don’t want it to be a sad Christmas for them.”
Donations from local businesses, schools and the general community included the hampers, which were made to suit each individual household. They were personally delivered to the families by the group’s volunteers ranging in ages from 21 to the elderly.
“Our volunteers work really hard, sometimes until 11pm,” Brian said.
“We are very, very lucky to get the support we get. We want everyone to have a happy Christmas.”
