Accused murderer to front court in October

A TRARALGON man facing a murder charge will reappear in the Latrobe Valley Magistrate’s Court for a contested committal mention in October.

William Scriven, aged 34, faced the court on Thursday via video link from the Metropolitan Remand Centre.

He has been charged with the murder of 32 year-old Wayne Glenn Bayley in Traralgon just days before Christmas, on 22 December.

Friends and family members of the victim heard Scriven will remain remanded in custody until the proposed four-day committal mention on 7 October in Morwell.

The court will hear from 23 witnesses.

Missing smartphone

A MAN on his lunch break who accidentally left behind his $800 smartphone on a bench near Moe Plaza has been unsuccessful in tracking it down.

The victim, who was having his lunch about 1.20pm on 5 March outside the Spare Change variety store in Moore Street, placed his 64GB black Apple iPhone on the bench next to him and forgot to take it with him.

When he returned 10 minutes later, the phone was no longer there.

Anyone with any information, or witnesses who may be able to assist with the investigation should phone Constable Mark Woodbridge at Moe Police on 5127 2222.
