Hazelwood worker stable after fall

A Worksafe investigation is ongoing at Hazelwood Power Station, after a maintenance worker suffered serious head injuries in a 2.5 metre fall yesterday afternoon.

The man in his 40s was stabilised and airlifted to Alfred Hospital after a call out at 2.14pm, where he remains in a stable condition.

The worker, from Hazelwood’s major maintenance contractor Fluor, is believed to have been spotting a maintenance task on a station boiler when the accident occured.

Maintenance unions and Incolink counsellors have attended the site, assisting the injured worker’s colleagues where required.

A spokesperson for GDF SUEZ Australian Energy, the owner operator of Hazelwood Power Station, said the worker was in the vicinity of a bunker when the incident occurred.
