More heavy rain on the way

The State Emergency Service has warned of a high chance of flooding in the Traralgon Creek area later this afternoon and overnight.

As of midday, the SES had received 10 call-outs for minor flooding across the Latrobe Valley.

“We’re expecting the rivers and creeks to rise this afternoon, particularly the Traralgon Creek,” SES public information officer Anna Larkin said from the Traralgon Incident Control Centre.

Latrobe Valley towns received 40 to 70 millimetres of rain in the last 24 hours.

The Traralgon Creek received 75mm last night and Balook was inundated with 73mm.

“We are expecting further heavy rain which will gradually move east, but areas like the Moe drain and the Tyers-Traralgon Road could be affected when the Latrobe River rises,” Ms Larkin said.

“People should take great care driving, have their headlights on and slow down. Drive to the conditions.”
