A Moe community volunteer has been left in shock after his car keys were stolen and his utility vehicle taken from the Moe Scout Hall on Sunday.
The 53 year-old Newborough resident was working in the hall in Apex Park about 5.40pm when an unknown thief came inside, took his car keys off a table and drove off.
The man told The Express his head was buried in the cupboard he was installing, when he saw a dark shadow out of the corner of his eye.
“I thought it was my wife, but by the time I realised it wasn’t my wife and had gone over to the door, there was my car driving away,” the man said.
“That shadow was someone taking my car keys.”
The stolen blue 2005 Ssangyong Musso utility vehicle also contained an estimated $2000 worth of tools, the man’s house keys and wallet.
Moe police said the man saw two people in his vehicle and tried to follow them in another car, with the last sighting near Moe Caravan Park at Mitchells Road.
Police confirmed a number of vehicle thefts had occurred in recent times, and were asking drivers to ensure their vehicles and car keys are properly secured to prevent any further incidents of this type.
