Hazelwood Pondage will remain closed during the upcoming Easter and Anzac Day holidays due to blue green algal blooms detected in early February, which remain present in the waterway.
Water monitoring conducted by GDF SUEZ Hazelwood has revealed a reduction in BGA bloom and a slight increase in water levels following recent rainfall, but the pondage remains unsafe for recreational activity.
Warning signs remain in place at all public access points advising people not to use the waterway until further notice.
The community has been advised to use alternative waterways in the region for activities such as swimming, skiing and windsurfing.
GDF SUEZ Hazelwood will continue its water monitoring program to assess changes to the BGA and water level in the pondage and will advise the public of any changes to the situation.
