New editor for Express

The Latrobe Valley Express has this week welcomed a new editor – Shaun Mallia.

Mr Mallia comes to the role following four years as sub-editor and chief of staff, after starting his journalistic career at The Express more than seven years ago.

“Shaun brings with him a passion for quality journalism and experience in all aspects of the newsroom,” Express general manager Bruce Ellen said.

Born and raised in the Latrobe Valley, Mr Mallia said he had worked with fantastic editors and journalists who demonstrated to him the value of a local newspaper, and the importance of community.

“After all these years I have been given a wonderful opportunity to lead a team of dedicated journalists who want nothing more than to provide our community with the best possible news,” he said.

“So I feel privileged, excited, even a little nervous, to be taking the reins of such a well-respected newspaper, and with the help of my editorial team – and more importantly – the community, promise to continue to provide you with one of regional Victoria’s best newspapers.”

Mr Mallia said as the online world played an increasingly large role in people’s lives, it was an exciting time for the news industry.

“We will take a more proactive approach in social media as a way not only to deliver the news to you, but to encourage a conversation with you – it’s no longer a one-way street,” Mr Mallia said.

“So don’t be shy, get in touch with us, and let’s chat about what’s happening in the Latrobe Valley.”
