The State Emergency Service has received more than 400 calls for assistance across the Latrobe Valley, west and south Gippsland since mid-morning on Thursday.

SES Gippsland operations manager Stuart Beales said the majority of damage was in Moe, Morwell and Warragul, with trees over roads and trees on houses.

A 12 metre gum tree fell on a Mirboo North home, damaging a room. Nobody was injured.

Windows were blown out of a house in Thorpdale and a 50 year-old woman was taken to hospital with facial injuries after a tree fell on her car at Lardner.

Wind gusts have been reported up to 130km/h, and according to the SES have the power to bring down even the largest of trees.

“The next couple of days we’re going to experience some strong winds so we encourage people to take care on the roads, particularly roads people are unfamiliar with, especially on blind corners,” Mr Beales said.

Anybody needing SES assistance should phone 132 500.
