MORWELL’S roses will be illuminated at the inaugural ‘Rose Garden Festival of Light’ event this Saturday.
In the wake of the Hazelwood mine fire, the Morwell Rotary Club was inspired to bring light to the town’s celebrated Morwell Centenary Rose Garden.
Morwell Rotary president Tom Shanahan said the rose garden would be in full bloom and complemented by coloured lights.
“It will illuminate the whole garden, and the colours will reflect off the roses themselves. It’s going to be incredible,” Mr Shanahan said.
“It’s an opportunity for everybody in Morwell to enjoy the rose garden, meet the Friends of the Rose Garden, the Rose Society of Victoria and visiting Rotary Clubs from neighbouring areas.”
The Morwell Rotary also plans to provide a barbecue trailer for the sale of sausages and hamburgers on the evening, and a raffle supported by Morwell businesses.
The Leukaemia Foundation will benefit from funds raised.
The community is invited to attend the event from 6pm to 9pm.
