Gippsland’s Anglican community has welcomed its new religious leader with the announcement of Reverend Kay Goldsworthy as its incoming Bishop on Friday.
Bishop Goldsworthy was one of the first women to be ordained as a priest in Australia in 1992, and has more recently served as an assistant bishop in Perth.
Ms Goldworthy’s instalment comes after the sudden passing of Bishop John McIntyre in June, who was widely known for his progressive stance on social justice issues.
“I am deeply aware of the responsibility and privilege being given to me and look forward to working alongside the clergy and lay people of Gippsland in the mission entrusted to us all in Christ,” she said.
Bishop Kay will move to Gippsland in February and will be installed at St Paul’s Cathedral, Sale, in late March.
